Virgin coconut oil is a functional food as well as a nutrient. When ingested, it plays a key role as it contains a unique fatty acid composition as well as antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
 Virgin coconut oil, made from cold-pressed fresh coconut kernels, also contains polyphenolic antioxidants, and it is better if copra-derived coconut oil is widely available. It contains more than 64% medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs), and approximately 76% of the MCFAs in VCO fats are lauric acid.
